Website: Connecticut Visit, http://www.ctvisit.com/
Want to know what $1 buys? A heck of a lot based on Connecticut’s official tourism site, Connecticut Visit. With a $1 promotion budget this year, the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism has done an excellent job showcasing Connecticut as a travel destination with its website. The “52 Great Getaways” classifed in six interest-driven categories are pretty cool. The ever changing “Connecticut Top Ten” list is another great idea generator.
I don’t think of Connecticut as a tourist destination. Most tourists I suspect live in Connecticut, are visiting someone who lives in Connecticut, are driving through Connecticut, have work in Connecticut, or are looking for a day trip from New York or Boston. Connecticut Visit is a site created by people who know why people travel to Connecticut and it provides exactly the content they need to uncover some of the great destinations and events the state offers.
Personally, I use the “This Weekend” to figure out where to take my family on any given weekend, and keep an eye on the scrolling “Don’t Miss” box. Browsing some of the 52 Great Getaways, I’m beginning to see that Connecticut is a great destination to visit for no other reason than to enjoy it.
